Jennifer Cudjoe appeals for increased support for Women’s Football in Ghana

Black Queens midfielder Jennifer Cudjoe has called on stakeholders and corporate bodies to ramp up support for women’s football in Ghana.

Her appeal follows the national team’s impressive performance at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where they claimed bronze after a dramatic penalty shootout win over South Africa. The result marked a significant comeback for the Black Queens, who had missed the last two editions of the tournament.

Speaking to Citi Sports, Cudjoe stressed that the team’s success was the product of years of dedication and development—not chance.

“What we did is not just a coincidence; it’s something that we’ve been building on for years. So now, maybe, this is the opportunity for them—corporate organisations—to start coming in,” she said.

The experienced midfielder also underscored the urgent need for sponsorships and corporate partnerships to help sustain the momentum and promote long-term growth in the women’s game.

“Right now, the Black Queens need more sponsors. It would be good to have companies that actually want to work with the Black Queens and help develop the women’s game,” she added.

The Black Queens will next face Egypt in a two-legged qualifier for the 2026 Women’s AFCON, with the first leg scheduled for October 20 in Cairo and the return leg on October 28 in Accra.
