A 35-year-old woman, Faustina Ackom, is battling for her life after being shot by her husband, 41-year-old Wahibu Bukari, at Anum in the Assin North district of the Central Region on Sunday.
Faustina sustained gunshot wounds to her inner left arm and breast and is currently receiving treatment at the St Xavier Hospital in Assin Fosu.
The couple, married for 10 years with four children, reportedly had a heated dispute after Bukari accused his wife, a trader, of infidelity.
According to eyewitnesses, Bukari confronted Faustina around 12:30 am after allegedly finding unfamiliar phone numbers on her mobile phone. The argument escalated, and in an attempt to flee, Faustina was allegedly shot by her husband.
One eyewitness, Lydia Yeboah, recounted that they heard the victim screaming for help around 1:00 am. Neighbours rushed to the scene and helped her to the hospital.
The suspect fled immediately after the incident and is currently on the run. Residents believe he may be hiding in Assin Fosu, Kushia, or Twifo Praso.
Police say investigations are underway. A team from the Assin Fosu Divisional Command has since visited the victim at the hospital to assess her condition and gather information.
