Ivory Coast thrash Ghana 3-0 at WAFU B U-17 Championships

Ivory Coast’s U17 side produced a commanding performance on Tuesday evening, cruising to a 3-0 victory over Ghana in the ongoing WAFU B U17 Championship.

The tournament, being staged in Ivory Coast, also serves as a qualifier for the next U17 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ghana’s Black Starlets, who drew 1-1 with Togo in their opening fixture, went into the match needing a win to strengthen their chances of progressing.

But the young Elephants proved too strong, combining pace and precision to outclass their visitors.

The breakthrough came in the 18th minute when Robinho Gavi Yao broke through Ghana’s defence and finished calmly to give the hosts the lead.

The Starlets pushed for an equaliser but were unable to find a way past a resolute Ivorian backline before the break.

After the interval, the home side tightened their grip on the contest, adding two more goals to complete an emphatic win at Stade Konan Banny.

The result leaves Ivory Coast top of Group A with six points from two matches.

For Ghana, the defeat is a major setback. The Black Starlets must now beat Niger in their final group game to keep alive any hopes of reaching the knockout stage.
