Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has cautioned against sacking Otto Addo ahead of the 2026 World Cup, saying it would be a huge mistake.
His remarks come amid public debate over the 50-year-old’s future, with sections of football fans and pundits demanding changes within the national team’s technical setup to strengthen Ghana’s chances on the world stage.
Speaking on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV, Kwakye Ofosu backed Addo to continue leading the team, describing Ghana’s qualification for the World Cup as proof of his capability and tactical acumen.
“It would be a huge mistake to think that the current challenges should lead to a coaching change,” Kwakye Ofosu said. “We should focus on supporting the coach and the technical team, not undermining them at this crucial time.”
He emphasised that the Black Stars’ qualification, achieved despite stiff competition, should be celebrated as a significant accomplishment rather than overshadowed by criticism.
“Otto Addo has shown resilience and tactical maturity,” he added. “At this point, what the team needs is continuity and collective support from all Ghanaians.”
Addo steered Ghana through a tough qualifying campaign to secure a fifth World Cup appearance. The Black Stars will discover their group-stage opponents when the draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup takes place on December 5.
