It will be easier for Black Stars to face Mali at home – Otto Addo

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo believes playing at home against Mali will be significantly easier for his team than their recent outing against Chad.

Ghana were held to a 1-1 draw in N’Djamena last Thursday during Matchday 7 of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, a result that left both players and supporters disappointed.

Today, September 8, the Black Stars will host the Eagles of Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium in the crucial Matchday 8 fixture. Speaking ahead of the game, Addo expressed confidence that the team will deliver a stronger performance in front of their home crowd.

“Everybody was very disappointed after the draw in Chad. The expectation was high for us to win. We were disappointed, we analysed the game very well and hoped that we would learn from it,” he said.

“I’m very sure we will show another phase in Accra; it’s easier to play at home with our spectators supporting us, pushing the last percentages out of the body of the players. I expect different phases from the players,” he added.

Addo also emphasized the importance of learning from past mistakes.

“I hope we learned from the mistakes we made against Chad. The good thing is that we still have it in our own hands,” he said.

With Comoros having beaten the Central African Republic to narrow the gap to just one point, the Black Stars must secure a win to maintain their lead atop Group I. Kick-off is scheduled for 19:00 GMT.
