AFC Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has hailed Antoine Semenyo’s dramatic late winner against Tottenham Hotspur as a fitting farewell, suggesting the Ghanaian forward may have played his final game for the club.

Semenyo cut an emotional figure at the Vitality Stadium on Wednesday night, scoring deep into the contest to seal a 3–2 victory for the Cherries before leaving the pitch to a standing ovation from the home supporters.

The 24-year-old is expected to complete a move to Manchester City today, with the deal understood to involve a £65 million release clause.

“That was a lovely [moment] for Antoine,” Iraola said. “Sometimes football gives you these things. He has been top, he has given everything and been committed until the end. I think it is good that football gives him back this moment.

“There are still formalities [in his transfer]. I’m afraid to say because I don’t want to lose him, but that looks like it will be his last moments with us.”

Reflecting on Semenyo’s influence since arriving from Bristol City two years ago, Iraola did not hide his admiration, describing the winger as one of the finest players he has worked with.

“A top professional,” Iraola continued. “We are not [only] losing an incredible player but one of the best players I have ever coached. He is a top guy, so full of energy and ready for whatever you need him. I am sure he will continue his development because he has improved every season with us.”

Semenyo has scored 10 goals in 19 appearances for Bournemouth this season.
