Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has been elected as the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after winning the party’s presidential primaries held on Saturday, January 31, 2026.
Dr Bawumia secured 110,645 votes, representing 56.48 per cent of the total valid ballots cast, emerging victorious as collation progressed across polling centres nationwide. He maintained a clear lead over his four challengers throughout the voting process.
Following the announcement of the results, Chairman of NPP West London, Isaac Appiah-Kubi, congratulated Dr Bawumia on his victory and called on party members to unite ahead of the next general elections.
“It has been a tough period of campaigning, and I congratulate H. E. Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on his election as the flagbearer of our great party, the New Patriotic Party,” Appiah-Kubi said in a statement.
He urged party supporters to put aside internal differences and focus on regaining political power.
“This is the moment to put aside our differences and all pettiness. The responsibility before us is clear. We must organise well, work hard, and remain united if we are to win back power,” he stated.
Appiah-Kubi also praised the other aspirants who contested the primaries, describing them as key assets to the party.
“To all the aspirants who contested, I say well done. You have all played your part, and we have strong men in this party. Now is the time to close ranks and move forward as one,” he added.
He concluded by stressing the importance of collective responsibility within the party, noting that victory or defeat would be shared by all.
“We win together, and we fail together,” he said.
