The Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Kwabena Yandoh, has criticised the government and the judiciary for what he describes as excessive bail conditions imposed on the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Yandoh questioned the rationale behind the multiple bail conditions, suggesting that Chairman Wontumi was being unfairly targeted.
“Chairman Wontumi’s bail conditions are too much. He was first given a ₵1 million bail, then ₵15 million with his passport seized, and now another ₵10 million from the High Court over the alleged mining in the Tano River. Why is he being treated like a hardened criminal?” he asked.
He further accused the NDC government of political persecution, rhetorically adding, “Why is the NDC government treating Chairman Wontumi this way? Is he the one who killed Jesus Christ?”
Mr. Yandoh said the party is documenting all developments surrounding the case and will respond appropriately.
