General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Koduah, has expressed concern over what he describes as the excessive arrest of individuals affiliated with the party.
His comments follow the detention of two TikTokers allegedly linked to the NPP—Prince Ofori, popularly known as Fante Comedy, and Yayra Abiwu, also known as Akosua Jollof—in connection with a viral video containing threats against President John Mahama and his wife, Lordina Mahama.
In a related incident, NPP activist Daniel Adomako, popularly known as Sir Obama Pokuasi, was arrested for sharing a viral video showing people handling weapons.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Mr. Koduah contrasted these arrests with past incidents where political figures were recorded making inflammatory statements against former President Nana Akufo-Addo and former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia without facing any consequences.
He stressed that “crime has no expiry date” and urged Inspector General of Police, COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, to apply the law fairly, calling for action against individuals who had made similar remarks in the past.
Mr. Koduah also demanded the arrest and interrogation of Ada MP and Deputy Majority Whip, Comfort Doyoe-Cudjoe, over her comments on the August 6 helicopter crash that claimed eight lives. The MP had suggested that the helicopter exploded mid-air rather than crashing, a claim the NPP Chief Scribe described as “reckless.”
“Several NDC members have made derogatory comments regarding the helicopter crash. If we want to arrest or invite people, it shouldn’t be selective. That is why we don’t agree with the police, and we will call it political witch-hunting. We have excesses, and things may not be right, so we caution that people shouldn’t be intimidated or gagged; that will not help the country and our democracy,” he fumed.
The tragic crash claimed the lives of Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence; Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation; Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr. Samuel Sarpong, former Ashanti Regional Minister; Samuel Aboagye, former NDC parliamentary candidate for Obuasi East; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
