Newcastle United beat Ipswich Town, Wolverhampton Wanderers defeated Leicester City, West Ham lost at Brighton and Southampton were downed by Fulham on Saturday afternoon.
Newcastle enjoyed an easy 3-0 win over Ipswich, but the first half had appeared to be drifting to a stalemate, only for Alexander Isak to make a late breakthrough.
Ben Johnson saw red on 37 minutes for holding back the Swedish striker, and when Jacob Murphy was pulled in the box to give Newcastle a spot-kick, Isak converted in first-half added time.
England defender Dan Burn scored his first Premier League goal and his side’s second for the returning Eddie Howe, back from hospital after suffering from pneumonia, and William Osula headed in a late third.
The win lifted Newcastle into third spot on 62 points, while Ipswich are 15 points from safety with only 12 left up for grabs, resulting in their relegation.
Wolves ease past Leicester
Wolves won by the same scoreline over doomed Leicester City at Molineux.
Matheus Cunha has been linked with a move away from the club in recent months, and he struck on 33 minutes for the home side to demonstrate why he continues to attract interest from potential suitors.
The Brazilian struck his 15th league goal of the season – levelling the record set for Brazilians – with a close-range finish.
Jorgen Strand Larsen added a second 11 minutes after the restart with a flowing counterattack move, and there was hope for The Foxes when the soon departing Jamie Vardy had the chance to reduce the deficit from the spot, only to see Jose Sa beat away his effort.
Rodrigo Gomes then scored with five minutes left on the clock to wrap up the win. Wolves moved into 13th spot on 41 points, while Leicester are 18 points adrift of safety.
Seagulls clinch dramatic victory against West Ham
Brighton & Hove Albion enjoyed a thrilling 3-2 win over West Ham United, which began in earnest when Yasin Ayari scored for Brighton after just 13 minutes, curling a brilliant effort into the top corner from 25 yards out.
Mohammed Kudus levelled three minutes into the second half, and on 83 minutes, a diving header from Tomas Soucek appeared to give Graham Potter’s men all three points, only for Kaoru Mitoma to strike with a minute remaining.
Then in added time, Carlos Baleba scored an outstanding shot from distance to earn the home side the win.
Brighton’s win leaves them in ninth spot, level with Fulham in eighth, while West Ham sit 17th with their safety assured for the current campaign.
Late Sessegnon strike earns Fulham three points
Fulham also left it late for their victory, coming from behind to beat Southampton 2-1.
Jack Stephens put the already-relegated Southampton ahead on 14 minutes, but Emile Smith Rowe scored on 72 minutes to equalise, expertly bringing down a ball over the top before beating former Arsenal team-mate Aaron Ramsdale with a deflected effort.
With the game approaching its conclusion, Ryan Sessegnon stooped to head an awkward but well-taken header past Ramsdale for three points. Southampton remain bottom with just 11 points.
In the day’s early kick-off, an outstanding Robert Sanchez performance helped Chelsea to a 1-0 win over Everton. David Moyes’ team are now 14th, with Chelsea in fifth spot and eyeing a return to the UEFA Champions League.
