Interior Minister meets Yagbonwura to restore peace amid Sawla-Bole conflict

A high-powered government delegation, led by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has held a closed-door meeting in Damongo with the Overlord of Gonja, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I.

The meeting, held at the Jakpa Palace, sought to foster dialogue, peacefully resolve outstanding disputes, and restore peace and order in the region.

The official team included the Chief of Defence Staff, Lt. Gen. William Agyapong; Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohunu; Director-General of Prisons, Patience Baffoe Bonnie; Comptroller-General of Immigration, Samuel Amandu Bansintale; and Chief of Army Staff, Major-General Lawrence Gbetamu Nana Adu-Gyamfi.

President John Mahama, following renewed tensions in the Sawla-Bole area of the Savannah Region, had initiated measures to calm the situation.

While on a state visit to Singapore, he held a telephone conversation with Yagbonwura to discuss peace incentives.

Subsequently, Minister Muntaka was dispatched with the delegation to work closely with the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), traditional rulers, and community stakeholders in Damongo to reinforce efforts to de-escalate tensions, sustain law and order, and entrench dialogue as the way forward.
