
Interior Minister and Member of Parliament for Asawase, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has condemned the fatal shooting of Kusasi Chief, Naa Abdul-Malik Azenbe, in Kumasi.
According to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, the incident occurred on the evening of Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at Asawase F-Line, a suburb of Kumasi. The assailants reportedly approached the victim at close range and opened fire before fleeing the scene.
In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, the MP described the killing as a “heinous act” and extended condolences to the bereaved family, the Kusasi community in the Ashanti Region, and the traditional leadership of the Kusaug area.
“This heinous act is not only an attack on a revered traditional authority but also a grievous wound to the peace and security we all cherish,” he wrote.
Muntaka pledged the commitment of the security agencies to ensure the swift arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators. He further emphasized the government’s resolve to uphold the rule of law and safeguard all citizens.
Naa Azenbe was initially rushed to the Manhyia District Hospital and later transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His body has since been deposited at the Ebenezer Mortuary in Tafo for autopsy.
The deceased also served as the Kaadi Divisional Area Chief in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region.
