Javier Mascherano’s side will take on Paris Saint-Germain in the round of 16 of the FIFA Club World Cup following a 2-2 draw against Palmeiras at the Hard Rock Stadium.

Palmeiras finished as Group A winners and will face fellow Brazilian side Botafogo in the round of 16.

Palmeiras started the match well, looking to play forward quickly and putting the Inter Miami defence under pressure from the first whistle.

The Brazilian outfit continued to launch forward in attack, but it was Inter Miami who struck first, breaking forward quickly on the counter with Luis Suárez cleverly finding Tadeo Allende who burst forward in attack. Palmeiras defender Murilo pulled his hamstring whilst in pursuit of Allende, leaving the Inter man to go one-v-one, and he made no mistake, slotting expertly past Weverton.

Palmeiras continued to push forward, with Abel Ferreira’s side registering 10 shots in the first half, but they found the target with just one of those.

Inter Miami had a huge chance to double their advantage five minutes into the second half, with Suárez once again combining with Allende, the Argentine burst through into the box but this time could only fire his effort wide of the post.

Luis Suárez made it 2-0 to Inter Miami with 66 minutes on the clock with a sensational goal. The Uruguayan collected the ball, held off the challenge of a Palmeiras player and headed for goal, took the ball past Fuchs with ease before unleashing an unstoppable effort into the top corner past Weverton.

Palmeiras pulled one back 10 minutes from time with Paulinho latching onto a brilliant reverse pass from Allan before firing home to give the Brazilian side hope.

Just seven minutes later, Mauricio completed the comeback, lashing home on the half volley, a goal which ensured Palmeiras finished as Group A winners.

Up next for both sides is the round of 16, with Inter Miami going head-to-head with Lionel Messi’s former team Paris Saint-Germain, whereas group winners Palmeiras will face Botafogo.
