Former Vice President and 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has reaffirmed his readiness to lead the party, highlighting integrity, competence, and humility as essential qualities for guiding both the NPP and Ghana.
Speaking to supporters after submitting his nomination forms at the party headquarters in Accra on Thursday, August 28, Dr. Bawumia stressed that the NPP requires a leader who reflects its core principles and the values of the nation—qualities he believes he embodies.
“The NPP and Ghana are demanding a leader who demonstrates deep intellect, humility, respect for all persons, unity, courage, foresight, and resilience. As the NPP seeks a leader who upholds the character of this party’s tradition and the values of our forebears, I, Mahamudu Bawumia, offer myself to lead the party into the 2028 elections,” he said.
He further noted that the upcoming primary is more than just a contest for the flagbearer position; it is a decision about safeguarding the party’s identity.
According to Dr. Bawumia, the delegates’ vote on January 31 will determine whether the NPP remains true to its founding values or drifts into a party that fosters divisions between the rich and poor.
