IMANI Africa has lauded President John Mahama on the completion of his first 120-day term in office, praising his performance.
A Senior Research Associate at IMANI Africa, Dennis Asare, stated that the policy think tank would score Mahama 50%, representing the promises he has completed or fulfilled.
“With how the promises were listed, whether it was to launch, initiate, or investigate, once a committee is set up or a report is presented, it will be ticked as fulfilled,” he explained.
However, he noted that 42 promises are partially completed, citing the much-anticipated 24-hour economy, among others. Some promises, such as the COVID-19 levy, remain unfulfilled.
Mr. Asare made this observation in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, following the President’s address to the nation on his achievements.
“When you listen to the President, it may seem he has fulfilled all the promises, but when you delve deeper, you will know there are yet to be fulfilled promises,” he said.
The 120-day performance update formed a key component of his campaign promise to restore accountability and set clear benchmarks for tracking governance progress.
Mahama expressed confidence that his government had made promises and kept them.
He stated that the first 120 days have been defined by decisive action, commitment to transparency, and a relentless focus on laying the foundation for building a desired Ghana.
The policy think tank argued that an overhaul would help prevent revenue leakages and strengthen public accountability in the procurement process.
