I’m here for power, not here to test the waters – Bryan Acheampong

Abetifi MP Dr. Bryan Acheampong has boldly declared his intention to contest and win the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearership race ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Speaking at the NPP Constituency Chairmen Caucus Conference in Kumasi on Saturday, June 21, the former Minister of Food and Agriculture stated unequivocally that his bid is not symbolic.

“I’m not here to test the waters. I’m here for power,” he told party faithful.

Dr. Acheampong touted his political experience, highlighting years of service from the grassroots level through to his current role in Parliament and past cabinet position.

He said the time has come to usher the NPP into a “new era,” one that he believes he is well-positioned to lead.

Amid cheers and chants from the crowd, one supporter was heard saying, “This is not just about Bryan. It’s about building strength together as a party.”

The NPP is expected to hold its presidential primaries on January 31, 2026, setting the stage for what is shaping up to be a heated internal contest.

Dr. Acheampong joins a growing list of contenders, including former Education Minister and MP for Bosomtwe, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong.
