Former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Akwasi Agyeman, has stated that he has no intention of returning to the Authority, even if the New Patriotic Party regains power.

According to him, his tenure has ended and he is now focused on commitments outside public service.

“I’m not coming back to the GTA. I have served my term — eight years — and I believe it is time for others to also gain the experience,” he said in an interview with George Quaye on Joy Prime’s PrimeTime.

He stressed that his decision is final and not tied to the political future of any party.

Agyeman explained that he has begun working on major projects that require his full attention.

“I have started a major project and set up a Centre for Tourism, Hospitality and Aviation, which launched last year. I also have projects in other countries to attend to,” he said.

These ventures, he noted, mark the next phase of his professional journey.

Reflecting on his years in office, he said he has closed the chapter on public service.

“Honestly, I’m done with public service. This year, we organised African Week in October in the UK as part of Black History Month, and I think that was a fitting conclusion to my service.”

He added that the Ghana Tourism Authority and the broader tourism sector would benefit from new leadership and fresh ideas.

“I think it’s time for some other people to also experience and contribute,” he said, expressing confidence that the industry will continue to grow under those who take over.
