Former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has assured Ghanaians of world-class development under his presidency, pointing to his track record of innovation and technological advancement as Vice President as evidence of what is possible.
Dr. Bawumia gave the assurance as he wrapped up his campaign tour of the Bono East Region, where he visited all eleven constituencies.
The final leg of the tour took him to Techiman North and South, where he interacted with party delegates and supporters.
Highlighting his achievements in government, Dr. Bawumia said Ghana had made major strides in digital transformation through initiatives such as the Ghana Card and Mobile Money Interoperability.
He noted that the Ghana Card had placed Ghana ahead of many advanced countries, including the UK, which is now seeking to introduce a similar national identification system.
On digital finance, the Vice President explained that the introduction of the Mobile Money Interoperability platform had revolutionized financial transactions in the country, making Ghana the first in Africa to achieve such a milestone.
“Mobile money accounts have grown from 8 million to 24 million, and the number of agents has increased from 107,000 to about 900,000, all because of the interoperability system,” he said.
Dr. Bawumia also referenced the success of the Zipline drone delivery system, describing Ghana as a global leader in medical drone services, with countries like the United Kingdom now working to emulate the initiative.
Outlining his vision, he stated, “That is why I say, when you vote for me, I will bring world-class development. You can believe me because what I have done as Vice President shows that I will do even more as President.”
He added that ongoing digital reforms in the health sector, including the ability to renew National Health Insurance cards electronically, were part of his broader commitment to improving the lives of Ghanaians.
