IFC explores aquaculture collaboration with Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture

The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, has paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Emelia Arthur, to discuss potential collaboration aimed at enhancing job creation and boosting productivity in Ghana’s aquaculture sector.

The meeting, held in Accra, focused on how the IFC could partner with the Ministry to create more and better jobs while improving food security and supply through strategic investments in aquaculture.

Mr. Kyle Kelhofer, IFC’s Senior Country Manager for Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, expressed the organisation’s interest in supporting Ghana’s fisheries sector—particularly aquaculture. He emphasised the immense opportunities within the sector that could be harnessed to generate jobs and build wealth for Ghanaians.

Emelia Arthur welcomed the engagement and expressed optimism about the potential impact. She reaffirmed her commitment to working with institutions like the IFC to expand the aquaculture space and improve livelihoods.

The Minister underscored the vital role fisheries play in Ghana’s economy and called for stronger support for private sector actors to scale up investments in aquaculture.

The meeting marked a significant step toward deeper cooperation between the Ministry and development partners in building a more resilient, profitable, and sustainable aquaculture industry in Ghana.
