IET-GH President urges new engineers to lead in AI and IoT era

The Institution of Engineering and Technology, Ghana (IET-GH), has held its 2nd Induction Ceremony in Tamale, officially welcoming a new cohort of engineering professionals into its ranks.

Addressing the ceremony, the President of IET-GH, Henry Kwadwo Boateng, called on the newly inducted engineers to embrace innovation, sustainability, and leadership in a fast-evolving technological world.

He noted that engineering today goes beyond design and construction, and now requires professionals to develop resilient and sustainable solutions to tackle global challenges such as climate change and infrastructure deficits.

“We live in a time of significant global challenges—from climate change to the need for smart, resilient infrastructure. As engineering professionals, we must lead the charge with forward-thinking solutions that protect our environment and serve society,” he said.

The event was held under the theme: “Making a Difference as an IET-GH Engineering Practitioner in the Era of AI and the Internet of Things.”

Engr. Boateng highlighted the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT), encouraging engineers to leverage these tools to build intelligent, efficient, and environmentally responsible systems.

He also acknowledged the disconnect between academic curricula and industry demands, stressing the importance of continuous professional development.

“This places a huge responsibility on you to keep learning. The world needs engineers who are not only prepared to respond but ready to lead,” he stated.

To support the growth of its members, IET-GH pledged continued investment in mentorship, training, technical resources, and professional networking opportunities.

Engr. Boateng ended by charging the new members to let their work be guided by innovation, excellence, and a strong sense of responsibility to society and the environment.

“Together, let’s build a future that is sustainable, resilient, and proudly engineered by Ghanaian professionals,” he concluded.

The induction ceremony marked a major milestone for the new engineers, equipping them with professional recognition and a renewed commitment to contribute meaningfully to national and global development.
