Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Dankwah, has described his organisation’s projection for the Akwatia by-election as one of the most rewarding exercises he has ever undertaken.
He said the satisfaction stemmed from the immense pressure he faced, knowing many were prepared to criticise him if the forecast had proven inaccurate.
Ahead of the September 2, 2025 polls, Global InfoAnalytics predicted victory for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Bernard Baidoo Bediako, projecting he would secure 53% of the valid votes.
The Electoral Commission’s certified results later confirmed Bediako’s triumph, with 18,199 votes against the 15,235 secured by the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Solomon Kwame Asumadu. Owusu Patrick of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) polled 82 votes. In total, 33,819 valid ballots were cast, with 303 rejected.
Speaking on Citi FM, Mr. Dankwah admitted the stakes were high for his outfit to deliver a credible projection.
“I knew I would have been taken to the slaughterhouse. They were preparing to take me there to finish me if I got this wrong,” he said.
He urged political parties to move away from propaganda and insults, stressing that Ghana’s electoral dynamics have shifted significantly.
“The word here is poll, fair game, research, and science. Gone are the days when elections are won on propaganda, emotions, insults, or just anything. All the parties must realise that the demography of people who are voting in Ghana today has dramatically changed.
“Over 70% of people who vote in Ghana today are below 35 years old. That is something that they must appreciate and understand the implications,” he added.
According to him, today’s younger voters are more informed, digitally engaged, and quick to fact-check politicians.
“These people are well-connected, are on social media, and will be quick to fact-check you. If they fact-check you and realise that you are telling lies, that is your end,” Mr. Dankwah cautioned.
