Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has assured members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of his commitment to safeguarding party unity ahead of the flagbearer contest.
Addressing thousands of supporters at the NPP headquarters in Accra on Thursday after officially filing his nomination, Dr. Bawumia stressed that he would not take actions that could destabilise the party.
“Our true opponent is not within. Our true opponent is out there,” he told the gathering.
The 2024 NPP presidential candidate urged fellow aspirants to view the upcoming primary as an internal process, emphasizing that the party’s focus should remain on defeating external rivals in the 2028 general election.
“I will not be the one to sow division or conflict. If ever there were someone to create problems for this party, it would certainly not be Dr. Bawumia,” he assured.
In addition to calling for unity, Dr. Bawumia outlined aspects of his vision for Ghana, promising policies to grow the economy and create sustainable jobs.
