The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has clarified that the recently released budget for the Black Stars’ 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers was prepared and published independently, without any external pressure or influence.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, September 2, Mr. Adams outlined the details of the approved budget for Ghana’s upcoming matches against Chad and Mali.
Among the key adjustments were the cancellation of winning bonuses for Management Committee members, the removal of funds initially allocated for fuelling the Black Stars’ team bus, and a 50 per cent reduction in winning bonuses for the head coach, his assistants, and the players.
Speaking on Adom FMs morning show Dwaso Nsem, the minister explained the timing of the disclosure, stressing that it was done at the appropriate moment.
“Nothing pushed me to release the Black Stars budget. I indicated that I would put the budget out when it is ready, and it was made ready on September 1, so we released it on Tuesday, September 2,” he said.
“I don’t act on anyone’s push; we act when we have to act. If you are a leader and you act based on being pushed, then you are not a leader. As a leader, you do things at the right time and not based on what people say or what people want you to do, and that is what I have always done. I am happy that we did it yesterday, and I am happy with the way we did it.”
Meanwhile, on the field, the Black Stars will travel to N’Djamena to face Chad in Matchday 7 on Thursday, September 4, before returning to host Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, September 8.
