Former MP for Awutu Senya East, Mavis Hawa Koomson, has expressed a mixture of relief and happiness following the findings of the Minister of the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, regarding the 2024 Kasoa election shooting incident.
Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, Hawa Koomson said, “Everyone has seen that I was not the one who did what Naa Koryoo claimed. I am sad and very happy at the same time, because today, I have been vindicated.”
She further thanked God and the authorities involved, noting, “I thank God for what He has done. That wicked mind that Naa Koryoo had against me, just because of politics, is now exposed. I am happy today that her bad intentions are out in the open. I also thank the Minister for not hiding the truth because of politics, but coming out and revealing the facts to vindicate me, and the people who conducted the investigation.”
Her comments follow a briefing by the Minister for the Interior, Mubarak Mubarak, who confirmed that investigations by the Election Security Task Force found no evidence that Philis Naa Koryoo Okunnor, the current MP for Awutu Senya East’s convoy was attacked.
The Minister clarified that Naa Koryoo was not present at the scene of the incident that led to the death of Yusif Larri Idriss, who was reportedly shot during a confrontation involving occupants of a Mahindra pickup truck.
Kasoa has long been regarded as a political hotspot, with both the 2020 and 2024 general elections witnessing clashes between supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
