Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito has admitted his side still needs reinforcements in midfield as the midseason transfer window for the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League draws to a close.

The Porcupine Warriors secured a 2-0 victory over bottom-placed Eleven Wonders on Wednesday at the University of Ghana Stadium, but the performance—particularly in midfield—left sections of the club’s fanbase unconvinced.

Addressing concerns after the match, Zito openly acknowledged the need for a specialist defensive midfielder, pointing to the absence of balance in the centre of the pitch.

“For the DM [Defensive Midfield] position, I still need some. I still need a DM, and [Hubert] Gyau didn’t get his day because it also affected the midfield,” Zito said.

The Kotoko coach also explained that injuries within the squad limited his options and influenced the team’s overall display.

“Some [of the midfielders] are just coming [back] from injury, so I didn’t expect them to play the normal game the way they would. At the end of the day, since we were able to win, I’m okay with that, but it shall be well,” he added.

The Ghana Premier League midseason transfer window is scheduled to close on January 15, 2026, giving Kotoko limited time to address their midfield concerns.

Kotoko will turn their attention to their next fixture on Sunday, December 28, when they host Bechem United at the Baba Yara Stadium in a Matchday 16 encounter.
