Member of Parliament for Kpandai, Matthew Nyindam, has expressed hope that no MP, whether from the NPP or NDC, experiences the ordeal he faced during the legal battle over his parliamentary seat.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr Nyindam described the period as emotionally and politically challenging, but said he remains grateful to all who supported him throughout the process.

“I pray what happened to me doesn’t happen to any MP, whether NPP or NDC. I have gone through a lot, and I thank everyone who supported me,” he said.

He singled out former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for his personal support, describing him as a brother who consistently checked on his welfare and offered assistance.

Mr Nyindam noted that without the timely intervention of the Supreme Court, his seat could have been lost ahead of the proposed by-election. He also stressed that the declaration of the seat as vacant and the political activities in his constituency during that period were deeply troubling.

The Supreme Court recently overturned a Tamale High Court ruling that had annulled Mr Nyindam’s election as MP for the Kpandai Constituency, thereby restoring his position and confirming the validity of his victory in the December 7, 2024, general election.

The apex court’s decision was delivered by a 4–1 majority after granting a certiorari application filed by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP, who challenged the High Court’s jurisdiction to nullify the election. Full reasons for the ruling are expected to be released on February 6, 2026.
