I fired warning shot in 2020 for self-defense – Hawa Koomson

Former ,Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development

Former Awutu Senya East MP, Mavis Hawa Koomson, has denied allegations of inciting or sponsoring political violence, insisting she has never supported any form of attacks against her opponents.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Madam Koomson clarified that the gunshot incident during the 2020 elections in Kasoa was an act of self-defense.

“In 2020, there was no killing in Kasoa. They attempted, and it was out of self-defense that I fired a warning shot. I did no wrong,” she explained.

She expressed disappointment over claims linking her to political thuggery, particularly from fellow women.

“I contested in 2012 and 2016, and no one said I was violent. So how will my fellow woman say I am the cause of violence?” she asked.

Addressing new allegations relating to the 2024 elections, Hawa Koomson dismissed suggestions that she sponsored thugs as baseless.

“I am a mother and could never support violence against anyone. Everything we do in this world, we will account for,” she added.
