I faced many challenges before releasing ‘Aha Yɛ Kwan Ho’ – Mabel Okyere

Gospel musician Mabel Okyere has opened up about the challenges she endured before the release of her hit song ‘Anuonyam’ (Glory), popularly known as ‘Aha Yɛ Kwan Ho’—literally translated as “This is a roadside.”

Speaking on Joy Prime’s Changes show with Roselyn Felli, Mabel revealed that the lyrics of the song are a direct reflection of her personal struggles.

She explained that the songwriter, Nana Boateng, carefully crafted the piece to mirror her journey, having witnessed her humble beginnings and the pain she endured.

After receiving the lyrics and heading into the studio to record, she was struck by a severe illness that nearly claimed her life.

“I’ve worked with him for a long time—since 2013, when I began gospel music. He knows what I can do when God gives him a song. With ‘Aha Yɛ Kwan Ho’, when he sent it to me, I told him it’s a term used in everyday conversation, so I wondered how it could be turned into a gospel song. But when we got into the studio, I realised he had used my life story to write it. Before the release, I went through so many challenges, especially sickness,” she shared.

Grateful for God’s saving grace, Mabel has vowed to share her testimony wherever she goes.

Motivated by how far God has brought her since that traumatic period, she decided to praise Him with her new song titled ‘So Far So Good’.

The music video, which she says visually narrates her past experiences, is currently available and streaming on all platforms.
