The main suspect in the killing of Immigration Officer Stephen King Amoah has denied any involvement in the crime, insisting he is innocent and prepared to see the full legal process through to clear his name.

Bright Aweh, who has been in police custody since July 2025, rejected claims that he murdered the 38-year-old officer, maintaining that Amoah was his friend and that he had no hand in his death.

Describing the trial as mentally exhausting, Aweh expressed hope that the truth will eventually emerge.

“I did not kill my friend; I am not a murderer. I am going through this painfully for justice to be served. I will go through it for justice to be served,” he said.

Aweh was the first person arrested after Amoah was reported missing on July 3, 2025. The officer had reportedly left home to meet a friend at Ashongman Estate over what investigators said was a financial matter.

Five days later, a partially burnt body believed to be Amoah’s was discovered in a gutter at Abuom Junction near Kwabenya, close to the GBC Satellite area and opposite Comet Estate in Accra. Despite the severe burns, relatives later identified the body at the Police Hospital mortuary.

The Accra Regional Police Command arrested Aweh on July 10, 2025, after investigations indicated he was the last person known to have been in contact with Amoah before he disappeared.

Since then, Aweh has been appearing in court as the trial progresses. However, several adjournments have slowed proceedings, frustrating the victim’s family.

Relatives of Stephen King Amoah say the repeated delays have deepened their pain and prolonged their wait for closure. In a statement on December 3, 2025, the family said they remain determined to see justice served despite the slow pace of the case.

Amoah was laid to rest on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at the SDA Church, Old-Tafo (4 Miles) in the Ashanti Region.
