Ghanaian singer Sista Afia has issued a statement clarifying her role in an incident at her 10th Anniversary concert, where a minor, Tracy Shay, appeared on stage to perform.
In the statement, Sista Afia said she had no knowledge of how or when the young girl got on stage and stressed that she did not personally invite her to perform. She noted that her current focus remains on reviewing the success of her decade-long music milestone and working with her management team to assess all aspects of the event.
She added that after the review, a detailed response on the matter will be issued at the appropriate time.
Sista Afia further thanked the general public for the overwhelming support shown during her anniversary celebration and assured that an update would be provided in due course.
The issue sparked public debate after social media users questioned the appropriateness of a minor performing at an adult-rated concert.
Wendy Shay, Tracy Shay’s mentor, also expressed dissatisfaction, stating that she was not informed about her mentee’s appearance on stage. She explained that one of the challenges of mentorship involves parental interference in decisions concerning young talents.
Wendy Shay clarified that Tracy’s appearance on stage was a decision taken solely by her parents, adding that neither she nor Sista Afia was aware of it. She called for calm as efforts continue to resolve the matter.
