I am not quitting Black Queens coaching job – Kim Lars Björkegren

-

Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren has firmly dismissed reports linking him to a possible exit ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

The Swedish coach led Ghana to a commanding 7-0 aggregate victory over Egypt, securing qualification for next year’s continental tournament.

Despite media speculation that he could be tempted by a more lucrative offer following his success, Björkegren reassured fans of his commitment to the national team.

“No, I will not leave. To be completely honest, I had another 14 offers at the time I signed for Ghana. I wanted to be here in Ghana, and I think I can help the girls,” he said after the game.

He expressed optimism about the team’s progress, adding, “Together, I think we are on the way to something really, really good, so I’m here to stay with the girls.”

The 2026 WAFCON will also serve as the qualifying tournament for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, with the four semifinalists earning automatic berths to the global event.
