Black Stars left-back Derrick Köhn has expressed his excitement at the prospect of facing Germany in a friendly next year.
Ghana is set to take on the 2014 World Cup champions in Stuttgart on March 30 as part of their build-up to the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Köhn, a Union Berlin defender, who made his Black Stars debut against Japan in the Kirin Cup, is particularly eager to play in the country where he has spent his entire life.
“I can’t wait [friendly against Germany]. I was texting the team manager of Black Stars, if I’m in the squad, please, I need 100 tickets. I need a lot of tickets,” he told 3Sports.
The defender also revealed the strong interest from friends and contacts in Germany, highlighting the personal significance of the fixture.
“The whole of Germany is texting me like, please, if you can make it happen, we’re going to come. But I know when I’m there, for sure I knew the German guys would come and I want to show them that Ghana is there.”
For Köhn, the friendly represents more than just another game; it’s an opportunity to test himself against elite opposition while strengthening team chemistry ahead of the World Cup.
“That’s why I’m so powerful that we try to beat Germany. This is also one of my dreams. But it’s going to be a good game. Let’s prepare well for the World Cup, have a good game, and then we will see what happens.”
Köhn has enjoyed a strong start to the 2025/26 season, making 15 appearances for Union Berlin and cementing his role as a key figure in the squad. He will now hope to translate that form into a place in Ghana’s World Cup squad.
