The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has explained how easy and flexible the process and requirements for the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, also known as MahamaCares, could be for anyone.
In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Mr. Akandoh emphasised that the initiative will prioritise specialist care for Ghanaians.
However, there is a need for eligible beneficiaries to file an application, which will be reviewed. The code and other relevant details will soon be publicised.
The fund aims to support individuals suffering from chronic conditions such as kidney failure, diabetes, and other serious health issues.
The minister, who doubles as Juaboso MP, explained that a beneficiary must have been diagnosed with any of the listed diseases by at least two medical practitioners.
“You will then apply with all medical documents attached for submission to the MahamaCares Fund. It will be reviewed, and within a maximum of two weeks, there will be feedback,” he stated.
The minister explained that while the Mahama-led administration aims to make the initiative universal, financial constraints have made it necessary to require applications.
