Kwaku Amankwatia, a diaspora radio program host at Asempa FM 94.7, and Samuel Lartey, CEO of Akwaaba Holland Foundation, paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, James Gyakye Quayson, MP for Assin North, to deliberate on issues surrounding dual citizenship between Ghana and the Netherlands.

The meeting focused on strengthening diplomatic ties and addressing concerns faced by Ghanaians living in the Netherlands, particularly regarding dual citizenship policies.

The delegation highlighted the importance of creating more flexible and inclusive frameworks that allow members of the Ghanaian diaspora to maintain strong connections with their homeland while fully integrating into Dutch society.

Dual citizens have the right to reside and seek employment in both countries without needing work permits.

Key issues discussed included legal procedures for acquiring dual nationality, the rights and responsibilities of dual citizens, investment opportunities for diaspora members, and ways to streamline administrative processes.

The delegation emphasized that clearer policies and improved collaboration between both countries would boost trade, cultural exchange, and remittance flows.

The Deputy Minister welcomed the engagement and commended the group for its proactive efforts in promoting national development.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to engaging the diaspora community and assured the delegation that their concerns would be carefully reviewed as part of ongoing diplomatic and policy considerations.

The meeting concluded with a mutual understanding to maintain open communication channels and explore further bilateral cooperation between Ghana and the Netherlands.
