The Member of Parliament for Anyaa-Sowutuom, Emmanuel Tobbin, has called on the police to quickly arrest and prosecute those responsible for the deadly Homowo clashes to prevent possible reprisal attacks.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, the MP said calm in the community can only be maintained if justice is delivered promptly.
“When such crimes happen, the culprits run into hiding and later resurface when the pain dies down. But since crime has no expiry date, the police must ensure they are punished to serve as a deterrent to others,” he stated.
He also urged young people in the constituency to avoid volatile areas, including ghettos and landguard hotspots, while appealing to traditional leaders to exercise restraint as security agencies investigate the incident.
“It is our prayer that calm is restored. But this will only happen if perpetrators are swiftly brought to book,” the MP added.
The violent clashes occurred during the climax of the Homowo Festival at Anyaa and Sowutuom on Saturday, August 30, 2025, following a misunderstanding between supporters of two rival chiefs, which escalated into gunfire and disrupted the celebrations.
Three people were killed, while four others sustained injuries and are receiving treatment.
