Two tipper truck operators have died after their truck came into contact with a high-tension electricity cable at Bokankye in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti region.

The victims, a driver and his mate, both yet to be identified, were offloading sand from a sand-winning truck with registration number GR 483-24, when the unfortunate incident occurred.

The assembly member for Owabi Electoral Area, Osei Kwame Malik, who confirmed the incident, said the truck’s bucket made contact with an Electricity Company of Ghana high-tension line during offloading on Wednesday June 10, 2026, resulting in the electrocution.

According to him, the victims were rushed to the hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival. The bodies were then deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital morgue for preservation and identification.

Police in the area have taken over the case and commenced investigations.

Mr Malik urged sand and gravel operators in the area to exercise extreme caution and avoid offloading under power lines.
