
President John Mahama has described the tragic helicopter crash that occurred on Wednesday, 6 August 2025, as a deeply personal loss.
“This tragedy represents a deep personal loss to me,” the President said, visibly moved.
“I shared personal relationships with many of them.” He extended his condolences to the families of the victims and assured them of the full support of the state during this difficult time.
The crash, which has shocked the nation, claimed the lives of several individuals whose identities are yet to be officially disclosed.
President Mahama praised their service to the country, describing them as “dedicated and patriotic citizens whose contributions will never be forgotten.”
The government has since declared a three-day national mourning period from Thursday, August 7 to Saturday, August 9.
Memorial events, including a public laying of flowers and an Evening of Reflections, have been scheduled to honour the departed.
President Mahama urged all Ghanaians to join in mourning and remembrance, calling for unity in the face of shared grief.
