President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has called for renewed national focus on ending illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.
This follows the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed eight lives, including two cabinet ministers.
In a post on his social media page, Franklin Cudjoe described the crash as a painful national tragedy and urged authorities to see it as a wake-up call.
“Sadly, we must use this painful experience to end illegal mining. Galamsey must end now!!” he wrote.
The crash, which occurred on Wednesday, August 6, in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, has reignited concerns about the risks and consequences of unregulated mining activities, including threats to national security and environmental degradation.
Sadly, we must use this painful experience to end illegal mining. Galamsey must end now!!
