Renowned lawyer and National Democratic Congress (NDC) stalwart, Tsatsu Tsikata, has expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of eight officials in the August 6 military helicopter crash, calling for their legacy to inspire unity and national healing.
Speaking at the Evening of Reflections and Memorial at the Forecourt of the State House, Mr. Tsikata reflected on the profound grief experienced by the victims’ families and the nation at large.
“It is a sad day indeed. Their loss has been in very tragic circumstances. The greatest pain will be felt by their families, their spouses, and their children,” he said.
The memorial honoured Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah; NDC Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Muniru Mohammed; former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye; Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed; and military crew members Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
The victims were travelling to Obuasi for the launch of the Responsible Co-operative Mining and Skills Development Programme (COMSDEP), an initiative to tackle illegal mining, when their helicopter went down in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.
Mr. Tsikata urged that the dedication to public service displayed by the victims be remembered and emulated.
“We can only hope and pray that what they lived and died for will be a lesson for all of us,” he said.
