Hearts of Oak maintain unbeaten start after goalless draw at Bechem United

Hearts of Oak extended their unbeaten run in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League after settling for a goalless draw against Bechem United at the Nana Gyeabour Park on Friday afternoon.

The result stretched Bechem’s winless streak to four matches, but the Hunters will feel hard done by, having dominated possession and forcing goalkeeper Benjamin Asare into three vital saves.

Augustine Okrah pulled the strings in midfield, while Kofi Tompuo’s surging runs repeatedly tested the Hearts backline. Yet, Bechem’s profligacy in front of goal ultimately denied them the breakthrough.

Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak started on the brighter side and looked more assured in the first half. However, they struggled to create clear-cut chances, managing just two shots on target from seven attempts, the same number of overall efforts Bechem produced, but with greater precision.

Set pieces also highlighted Bechem’s superiority, as they earned six corners compared to Hearts’ none. The match was fiercely contested but often scrappy, with three yellow cards issued, two to the hosts and one to the visitors.

For coach Didi Dramani, the draw offered positives, particularly a fourth consecutive clean sheet that underlined his side’s defensive discipline. Still, it felt like a missed opportunity following a promising first-half display.

Desmond Issah-Botchway’s Bechem can take encouragement from their attacking intent but remain winless, with pressure mounting to turn performances into results.

Looking ahead, Bechem United will aim for their first victory of the campaign when they face Young Apostles, while Hearts prepare for a blockbuster Super Clash at home against arch-rivals Asante Kotoko.
