Hearts of Oak legend Mohammed Ahmed Polo has expressed his disappointment over the club’s recent struggles, criticising both management and the team’s performance.
Once a dominant force in Ghanaian football, the Phobians have failed to maintain consistency since clinching the Premier League and back-to-back FA Cup titles under coach Samuel Boadu — achievements that ended a 13-year trophy drought.
In the recently concluded 2024/25 season, Hearts of Oak finished fourth in the Ghana Premier League with 58 points and were knocked out in the Round of 16 of the FA Cup.
Speaking to Sporty FM, Polo did not hold back in assessing the club’s current situation.
“Hearts of Oak is now a mediocre club. They finished fourth, and the management were celebrating, which is unacceptable for the status of Hearts of Oak,” he said.
He added, “Hearts of Oak should be playing at the Club World Cup. We beat Esperance to win a cup, but they are today playing at the Club World Cup, and it is because of bad management — that has led to where Hearts of Oak is now.”
In a move aimed at reviving the club’s fortunes, Hearts of Oak have appointed former Asante Kotoko and Black Stars assistant coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani as head coach on a two-year contract.
The club also announced that outgoing coach Aboubakar Ouattara will now serve as Special Advisor to the Board of Directors.
