The Ministry of Health has announced that it will investigate concerns raised in an investigative report by The Fourth Estate regarding operations at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, commonly known as Ridge Hospital.

In a statement, the Ministry said it had taken note of the publication, which has been widely circulated on social media and drawn significant public attention.

“The Ministry of Health has taken note of an investigative report published by The Fourth Estate media house on the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Ridge,” the statement said.

The Ministry also expressed empathy for patients and families who may have had negative experiences in health facilities across the country.

“The Ministry sympathises with patients and relatives who may have been subjected to any form of unprofessional conduct in any health facility across the country,” it added.

Reiterating the government’s commitment to healthcare access, the Ministry said it remains focused on reducing the difficulties faced by patients.

“Government remains committed to reducing the stress and financial burden patients face in accessing healthcare,” the release said.

At the same time, the Ministry noted that some aspects of the report were troubling and require closer attention.

“We are deeply concerned and surprised by some of the revelations contained in the report. The Ministry considers the issues raised as serious and deserving of thorough examination,” the statement added.

Consequently, the Ministry confirmed that formal steps have been initiated to investigate the claims raised in the report.

“Accordingly, the Ministry of Health is in the process of constituting an investigative committee to look into the matter,” the release announced.

The committee will be expected to work within a defined period.

“The committee is expected to submit its report within fourteen (14) working days,” it said.

The Ministry further urged all parties involved to cooperate to ensure the process leads to accountability and better service delivery.

“The Ministry expects the full cooperation of all relevant stakeholders, including The Fourth Estate, to help unravel the facts and provide additional details necessary to ensure accountability and improve service delivery within our health system,” the statement added.
