The Ministry of Health is currently in a closed-door meeting with the leadership of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) and other key stakeholders in an effort to resolve the ongoing nationwide strike.
The outcome of the talks will determine whether the industrial action, which began on June 2, 2025, will be suspended or continue in the coming days.
The GRNMA declared the strike over the delayed implementation of the 2024 Collective Agreement, which outlines salaries, allowances, and working conditions for its members. The association has insisted it will not call off the strike until their demands are fully met.
Speaking to the media, the Ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Tony Goodman, expressed optimism about the ongoing engagement.
“This meeting is exactly what the Minister has been pushing for over the past few days—getting all sides back to the table,” he said. “Thankfully, the association’s leaders agreed to that call and are participating in this meeting.”
Mr. Goodman added that the Ministry is hopeful the negotiations will yield a breakthrough.
“We’re confident that by the end of this meeting, we will reach a resolution that will lead to the strike being called off. The fact that they showed up is a positive sign—they could have refused, but they came, which shows they see merit in the Minister’s appeal.”
The ongoing strike has disrupted healthcare delivery nationwide, leaving patients stranded and increasing pressure on overstretched facilities.
