Health Minister appeals to retired nurses and midwives to volunteer as strike bites hard

-

Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has passionately appealed to retired nurses and midwives to volunteer their services as the impact of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association(GRNMA) intensifies.

The Juaboso MP made the clarion call at a press briefing at the Jubilee House on Tuesday, June 10, 2025.

Mr. Akandoh reaffirmed the government’s commitment to engaging with nurses to achieve a mutually beneficial outcome in the interest of the public.

“The Ministry will, in the next few minutes, publish a comprehensive list of facilities to complement facilities where nursing services are lacking, where patients can seek healthcare,” he stated.

A crucial meeting on Monday, June 9, to resolve the impasse hit a deadlock after the government proposed plans to postpone the implementation of the conditions of service until 2026, an offer the GRNMA outrightly rejected.

With some health professionals at post amidst the strike, the minister expressed appreciation them and urged others to demonstrate solidarity with patients while negotiations continue.

“Our deep appreciation to practising nurses who have opted to remain at post to help suffering patients; we urge others to show similar fellow feeling and assist our compatriots, even as efforts are made to address your concern,” he appealed.
