Minister of Health Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has announced that the government will implement an average 120% increase in tariffs paid to service providers under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) starting in 2026.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, December 1, 2025, Mr. Akandoh explained that the decision follows years of complaints from health facilities that the current tariffs do not reflect the true cost of care.
“Beginning next year, we’re going to increase the tariff in the NHIS to service providers. They have long complained that the tariffs are unrealistic, and so the government has decided to raise them by 120% on average. I believe this will be a game-changer,” he said.
The Minister added that the adjustment aims to boost the quality of healthcare delivery, restore confidence among providers, and ultimately improve services for NHIS subscribers.
