Headmaster arrested for detaining BECE candidates granted bail

The Headmaster of Big Six Educational Complex in Meduma in the Ashanti region, who was arrested for detaining two candidates of the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), has been granted bail.

The two pupils missed their BECE Mathematics paper on Monday, June 16, 2025, after being locked up over outstanding fees and failing to attend a pre-exam camp.

The pupils were scheduled to write the exam at Simms High School in Fawoade, located in the Kwabre East Municipality, but could not join their colleagues for the paper.

Following viral reports of the incident, the headmaster was arrested on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has commenced a formal investigation into the matter, while the Kwabre East Municipal Education Directorate has also launched a separate probe to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
