He ran away when the economy collapsed – Fifi Kwetey fires at Bawumia

General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Kwetey, has taken a swipe at former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, questioning his leadership and role in Ghana’s economic challenges.

Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV, Mr. Kwetey criticised Dr. Bawumia’s stewardship as head of the Economic Management Team under the New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing him of failing to take responsibility for the country’s economic decline.

“Bawumia is an epitome of deception. It’s the truth. Every step of the way, he was more interested in spinning narratives than speaking the truth,” he claimed. “This is someone who lacked the courage to admit that they mismanaged the economy. He wasn’t a symbolic figure — he was in charge.”

Mr. Kwetey further alleged that Dr. Bawumia distanced himself from the economic crisis when it became evident the country was struggling.

“When the economy started collapsing, he suddenly said he wasn’t in charge. That tells you he’s not a leader — he’s a coward,” he said.

He concluded by questioning Dr. Bawumia’s fitness for higher office, saying, “You cannot aspire to lead any country if you lack a sense of responsibility and moral strength.”
