Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, on Thursday, January 29, paid a visit to the mother of the late Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, in the Eastern Region.

The visit formed part of the minister’s official trip to the region, several months after the burial of the former minister.

During the visit, Mr. Iddrisu shared words of comfort with the bereaved mother and assured her of continued support from government and sympathisers.

“God will see you through; God will give you the strength,” he said as he embraced her.

Touched by the gesture, the late minister’s mother expressed gratitude to all who have supported the family since her son’s passing.

“I thank you all for your support,” she said, acknowledging the compassion shown to her during the difficult period.

Dr. Omane Boamah passed away on August 6, 2025, while on official duty.

He was among eight people who lost their lives when a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter crashed in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.

The helicopter was travelling from Accra to Obuasi for an anti-illegal mining operation when the crash occurred.

The other victims were Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, then Minister of Environment, Science and Technology; Muniru Mohammed Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Samuel Sarpong, NDC Vice-Chairman; Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
