Former Hearts of Oak Chief Executive Officer Harry Zakour has called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to consider Laryea Kingston for the vacant Black Stars head coach position.
The GFA is searching for a new coach after Carlos Queiroz’s short-term contract reportedly ended following a breakdown in talks over an extension.
Queiroz replaced Otto Addo ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup and guided Ghana to the knockout stage for the first time since 2010.
With reports suggesting assistant coach Desmond Ofei could take charge of the Black Stars during the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, Zakour believes the GFA should look beyond the Portuguese coach.
The former Hearts of Oak chief described Queiroz as too old for the role and urged the football authorities to give Kingston an opportunity.
“I don’t believe Carlos Queiroz must continue as Black Stars. He is old for this job,” he told Sporty FM.
“We have good coaches around like Laryea Kingston, but the problem is that he will be hired, and they will not pay him.
“We have all seen what he is doing in Uganda, and I think for me, we must give him a look,” he added.
Kingston is currently in charge of Uganda’s male national teams, where he has earned recognition for his work after leaving his role as Black Starlets head coach.
Ghana are now preparing for the 2027 AFCON qualifiers, with the Black Stars expected to regroup in September for the start of their campaign.
