The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has unveiled a bold strategy to position the Volta Region as one of Ghana’s next major tourism and investment hubs, with a focus on sustainability, digital transformation, and stronger public-private partnerships.

Speaking at the 2025 Volta Investment Summit held at the Volta Serene Hotel in Ho, the CEO highlighted the region’s rich landscapes, cultural heritage, festivals, and creative arts as key drivers for global tourism growth.

Under the theme “Tourism and Cultural Assets for Development,” he outlined three priority areas: sustainable eco-tourism, digital visibility, and collaborative investment models.

He emphasized that sustainable tourism must be paired with community economic empowerment, noting that sites across the region — from waterfalls and sanctuaries to beaches — can generate jobs if developed responsibly. He added that youth involvement in travel services, craft shops, food outlets, and vehicle rentals could transform local communities into active tourism stakeholders.

The GTA CEO also announced major digital initiatives to enhance Ghana’s tourism visibility, including a new licensing portal, a cashless booking system, virtual tourism experiences, and the Visit Ghana social media platform.

He highlighted the launch of the new Accra–Atlanta Delta Airlines route as a sign of growing international confidence in Ghana’s tourism sector, presenting fresh opportunities for the Volta Region.

On partnerships, he stressed that tourism development thrives when government, traditional authorities, private investors, and communities work together. The GTA is in advanced discussions with investors on high-impact projects and remains committed to ensuring local participation for long-term sustainability.

The CEO commended the Volta Regional Coordinating Council for its leadership and reaffirmed GTA’s commitment to leveraging the region’s cultural identity for economic growth.

The summit brought together President John Dramani Mahama, regional leaders, traditional authorities, investors, and industry players to explore strategic opportunities in the Volta Region’s tourism and cultural sectors.
